CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—South Dakota sophomore Rachel Cue pitched a one-hit shutout in leading the Coyotes to a 6-0 win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday on the final day of the Islanders Classic. South Dakota (3-5-1) finished the Classic with a 2-2-1 record.
Cue (3-3) retired 21 of the 25 batters she faced. She allowed a single to Mackinzee Griebel to start the fourth inning and walked four. Griebel was the only Islander who touched second base.
Cue's support came during a five-run third inning by the Coyotes. Katie Cochran's two-run homer to left began the rally. It was the second homer of the season for Cochran, who had two hits Sunday.
Catcher Allie Daly and second baseman Sydney Hancock added RBI singles later in the third. Third baseman Matley Jones added an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-0. Jones was 2-for-4 Sunday and has hit safely in seven consecutive games.
South Dakota first baseman Yvon Minogue was 1-for-3 and scored twice Sunday. She's hit safely in all nine games this season. Minogue was 10-for-16 (.625) with four doubles, two RBIs and six runs scored in Texas. She's batting a team-high .586 (17-for-29) thru nine games.
South Dakota's next set of games take place Feb. 27-March 1 at a tournament hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville.
