Coyotes add Nanette Nylund for 2016-17 season

WTEN: Nylund signs

VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota head tennis coach Brett Barnett is pleased to announce the signing of Nanette Nylund to a National Letter of Intent. Nylund is a native of Tuusula, Finland, and has competed in Women's Tennis Association and International Tennis Federation events.

"I couldn't be happier that Nanette has decided to become a Coyote," said Barnett. "First and foremost she is a great student, has high standards for herself and will represent South Dakota well on and off the court. I was looking for someone that could make an impact in both our singles and doubles lineup and Nanette has the ability to do that. It is very impressive that she already has some WTA points in doubles. Coyote tennis will be getting a player that is looking to constantly improve, works hard and ready to help this program reach their goals moving forward!"

Nylund, a right-handed player, comes to USD ranked No. 1,181 in Women's Tennis Association doubles internationally. The list includes all professional tennis players across the globe. In 2015, she was ranked as high as 1,128th in the WTA. Nylund has a doubles record of 6-11 in WTA and ITF events and earned nine WTA points after winning matches in tournaments. Nylund is currently ranked ninth in Finland which includes professional players and juniors.

Nylund will study medicine at USD.
