Arnold Crockett originally of Kimball, SD, was an outstanding running back in the 1920s. Crockett earned all-North Central Conference honors as halfback on the 1927 championship team. He played during the 1925, '26, and '27 seasons. Game accounts during the Crockett-Maurice Clancy years are filled with their accomplishments. In a 13-0 loss to the University of Utah, one story said: "The game was slow and ragged with Crockett the only player who made substantial gains,," or after a 12-0 victory over North Dakota: " the game was clearly South Dakota's with Clancy and Crockett alternating at carrying the ball for repeated long gains." Crockett later lived in Sun City, AZ.
