Art Gelow, originally of Saginaw, MI, was one of the outstanding guards in South Dakota Men's Basketball history, starring for the Coyotes from 1965-69. Gelow was a two-time all-North Central Conference guard for coach Bob Mulcahy in 1967-68 and 1968-69. Gelow, a transfer from Bradley University, possessed good quickness and accurate shooting, finished his career third in school history with 1,115 points for a 15.1 average. He was the first guard to score 1,000 points in a career. Gelow who played in 74 games, scored 471 points (18.1ppg) for the Coyotes in 1968-69 as the Coyotes finished 7-5 for third place in the NCC. In his final two seasons, the Coyotes won 15 of 24 NCC games.
