Robert (Bob) Schroeder, originally of Miller, SD, was a standout basketball player who became a coaching legend in his hometown. Schroeder played three years of basketball for coach Rube Hoy before leaving USD at the end of his junior year to take a teaching and coaching position in his hometown, Miller. Schroeder joined Howard Taplett on the all-North Central Conference cage team in 1942-43 ( the last year of conference competition until after World War II). He also participated in track at USD. At miller, Schroeder coached football for 30 years, annually producing one of the top teams in the central South Dakota, if not the state. He was also track coach for 29 years and basketball coach for 18 seasons. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1949 from USD. He has served as principal and superintendent at Miller High School.
