Clayton Kiewel, a native of Rapid City, SD, and 13 teammates on the 1957-58 University of South Dakota national small college championship basketball team, was inducted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame in a special ceremony in 1980. Kiewel was one of four Coyotes named all-North Central Conference during 1957-58. Kiewel earned honorable mention all-NCC honors his junior year. Kiewel started at forward during his senior year, leading the squad with a 14.7 rebounding average, which led the NCC. Kiewel, who once pulled down 24 rebounds against North Dakota State (84-70 win) on Feb. 7, 1958. He finished his career seventh on the all-time rebounding list at USD with 643 rebounds. His 226 rebounds during his senior season was the third best single season mark at USD. Kiewel operates Desert Building Materials in Tuscon, AZ.
