Dennis Hennigan, a native of Washington, IA, was a big play performer and hard-hitting football player for the Coyotes in the 1970s. Hennigan was not exceptionally big but was quick, alert and could he ever hit. Playing 6-1, 197at defensive end, Hennigan simply made big plays. A three-year starter, Hennigan was one of the best players to ever play the position at USD. A two-time all-North Central Conference selection, Hennigan was a member of a defense that the media nicknamed the "Super Shrimps." With the front seven averaging 6-2, 198 pounds, USD won its third straight NCC crown in 1974 with Hennigan serving as co-captains.
