Dick Day earned all-North Central Conference honors in football for the 1951 Coyotes' conference team. He was called by head football coach Harry Gamage "the best offensive center" he ever coached. Day, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, also was a two-year letter winner in basketball for the Coyotes. He had coaching stints at Mithcell High School, the old Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa, and served as head coach at Washington High School in Sioux Falls for 12 years. He also served as athletics coordinator at Washington High School.
