Dwight Redfield was one of the outstanding players in the early years of South Dakota basketball. But Redfield excelled at several sports, earning a total of 11 letters at USD and would have had 12 if he hadn't been injured one year and missed football. "Twist", as he was nicknamed, was truly an outstanding all-around athlete. He led the basketball team in scoring as a sophomore and was named to the all-conference team as a junior (1925-26) and senior (1926-27). At one time, he held the South Dakotan high school pole vault record as well as the NCC and the Howard Wood Dakota Relays mark. After graduation, he was affiliated with Nash Finch Company in Oklahoma before returning to Sioux Falls where he joined Redfield Land Company with his father and brother, Paul.
