Frank Hoy, a native of Sisseton, SD, was one of the outstanding track and field performers for South Dakota during the mid-1960s. Hoy sparked USD's track and field team, directed by head coach Dan Lennon, to successive NCC titles (1965,1966). Hoy ran on the third leg of the 1966 NCC South Dakota champion mile relay squad (3:21.6). When Hoy graduated, he owned or was part of the four all-time South Dakota intercollegiate records: 880 run, mile relay, sprint medley, and two-mile relay. Hoy, who was part of two NCC record-setting relays in sprint medley and two-mile, helped make history at the 1966 Howard Wood Dakota Relays when USD became only the second team to sweep all five relays in the University division. The 1947 Coyotes were the first to accomplish the feat.
