Connors, who was a professor of mathematics at USD from 1943 before his retirement in 1983, was actively involved in athletics during his tenure at South Dakota. He served as Coyote baseball coach, head track coach (1947-48) as well as assistant football and an assistant basketball coach. Following graduation from USD in 1938, Connors, later signed a professional baseball contract with a Sioux Falls entry in the old Western League. Connors, recognized as one of the top athletic officials in the state of South Dakota, has been inducted into North Central Conference Hall of Fame, the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, and was presented the Distinguished Service Award by the South Dakota High School Activities Association in 1980.
