Joe Crakes was a three-sport standout for South Dakota from 1927-31. Crakes played football, basketball, and ran track in the 1928-29-30 seasons. He was named to the Sioux City Journal all-North Central Conference team in the 1929-30 season. Crakes was captain of the 1930 and 1931 track team and won NCC title in the javelin in 1930 (166-1) and 1931 (173-7) and shot put in 1931 (41-3 3/4). He later lived in Victorville, CA.
