John Huth, track coach at Aberdeen Central, was one of several talented runners for legendary Coyote mentor Dan Lennon form 1964-68. In 1966, Huth sparked USD to the NCC championship by winning the 440 intermediate hurdles (53.4) and was a member of the winning 440-yard relay team (43.3). The following season (1967) the Coyotes finished second in the NCC and Huth won the 440-yard dash (49.7), ran on the winning 440-relay (43.1), and placed second in the 440-hurdles. Huth capped off his senior campaign (1968) with his second 440 hurdles title (55.4) along with leading the mile relay team to an NCC title (3:23.2) and he also finished in third-place mark in the 120 high hurdles. when he graduated, Huth owned four all-time South Dakota collegiate records, one NCC mark, and 12 school records.
