Ken Mizerny, a former prep standout at Loyola High School in Chicago, IL, was on the only national basketball championship team in South Dakota school history. Mizerny was indcuted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame with 13 teammates on the 1957-58 team in a special induction ceremony. Mizerny, who has worked for the South Dakota Department of Labor in Aberdeen, SD, was a top reserve guard as a sophomore during the championship season when South Dakota won its last 20 games to finish with 22-5 mark. The Coyotes defeated St. Michaels of Vermont, 75-53, in the small college championship at Evansville, IN. That South Dakota squad became the first and just one of two teams to go unbeated in a 12-game North Central Conference season.
