Lester Harney, originally of Lennox, S.D., was a two sport star, excelling in both football and track and field. Harney lettered three years in football (1924, 1925, 1926) and he was one of Coach Vince Montgomery's "Big Three" sprinters in 1926 and 1927. Harney helped the Coyotes win a NCC team track and field title in 1926 (49 points) and finish second in 1927 (36.5 points). Harney, a 1928 graduate of USD, worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company stores in Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Iowa, and LaCrosse, Wis., before moving to Dubuque in 1939 to manage a new store. He retired in 1963.
