A graduate of Ipswich High School, Norman Jaquith was a standout track and field performer, lettering from 1923-26 at The University of South Dakota. A "walk-on," he never competed in track in high school but was a key member of some outstanding Coyote relay squads. One of the great accomplishments of the Jaquith-era track teams was winning the special meet at an R.O.T.C. encampment at Fort Snelling that included 20 larger universities. At an indoor meet in Omaha, he once tied the world record for the 45-yard dash. He won NCC 100-yard dash titles in both 1924 and 1925, recording a time of 10.1 both years. He also won the NCC 220-yard dash title (23.0) in 1922. Jaquith practiced law in Vermillion and also served on the Vermillion City Council.
