Ralph Cobb, who has his own law firm in Eugene, OR, was one of the finest half milers in the Midwest during the mid 1940s. Cobb, a native of Scotland, SD, won the 880-yard dash (2:00.01) for the Coyotes in the 1947 conference meet. That performance was the second best in teh 880-yard run ever at the NCC meet. Cobb, along with Coutts, was a member of USD's invincible octet track unit that became, and still is, the only college team to win all four relay races at the Howard Wood Relays, accomplishing that feat in 1947. Cobb was a member of the sprint medley and mile relay units coached by Howard Connors in 1947. The Coyotes placed fist in 14 of 18 relay races that year and broke six school records.
