Ray Rylance was the first USD baseball player to be inducted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame. Rylance, who attended Aberdeen Central High School, was a standout catcher for the Coyote Baseball teams in the mid 1960s. He became the first two-time all-North Central Conference baseball performer ever at USD, earning those elite honors in 1966 and 1967. Rylance was named the most valuable player of the Coyote baseball team in 1966 after leading the squad with .351 average. He contributed three hits in USD's record setting 22-0 victory over Northwestern on April 13, 1966. Rylance graduated from the USD School of Business in 1967 and the USD School of Law in 1970. He spent three years as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has been owner and manager of Anderson Farms, Inc. of Mitchell.
