Robert Buck was one of the outstanding men's basketball players in South Dakota school history. He was the second Coyote ever to earn all-North Central Conference honors in basketball (Steve Adkins, 1930-32). Originally of Madison, SD, Buck played for South Dakota from 1933-36, earning all-league honors from 1934-36. He set a school scoring record in basketball, hitting 155 points in 1936. Buck was captain of the 1935-36 team and at the end of the 1935 season, Buck scored the first seven points and was the star as USD defeated South Dakota State 39-29. Buck also lettered in football twice and played third base on the University's unbeaten baseball team of 1934.
