Ron Eichbauer, a native of Allen Park, MI, ranks as one of the best halfbacks in South Dakota football history. Playing right halfback, Eichbauer was named to the 1958 and 1959 all-North Central Conference football teams. The 170-pounder led or ranked high in almost every Coyote statistical department in 1958. In that season, he finished second in rushing (367 yards), first in scoring (32 points), first in pass receptions (11 for 294 yards), first in punt returns (3 for 59 yards), first in kickoff returns (10 for 207 yards) and first in interception returns (3 for 8 yards). Eichbauer, who was captain for the 1959 Coyote team that finished second in the NCC, ranks seventh in school history in career punt returns with 16 for 330 yards and two touchdowns while ranking 14nth on the career all purpose yardage list with 1,891 yards. In 1958 he was honorable mention Little All-America.
