Tom Green of Hornick, Iowa, is an 8-time all-American and 2-time national runner-up. He placed second outdoors in the 200-meter dash in 2000, and was second indoors in the 60-meter dash in 2002. Tom had three other top-4 national finishes throughout his career, each during his senior season.
In addition to his success at nationals, Tom won the 100-meter dash at the Drake Relays in 2002, edging a runner from the University of Alabama. Tom was the only Division 2 athlete in the field. He remains the Coyotes’ record holder in four events, including the 100- and 200-meter dashes outdoors, and the 55- and 60-meter dashes indoors.
After completing his eligibility, Tom was chosen as one of a select group of sprinters to represent United States Track & Field in a series of meets that included stops in Palo Alto, California; Calgary, Canada; Glasglow, Scotland; and San Antonio, Texas. Shortly before then, he finished seventh in the 100 at the USA Track & Field Championships in California. It was the highest finish ever by a South Dakota athlete.
Upon graduation, Tom moved to San Diego, California, where he trained for the 2004 Olympics at the Olympic Training Center. He retired from track and field in 2006, and started a personal training business called Greenspeed Training Facility. He resides in San Diego.
