A teacher, official, and scorekeeper, Vincent Montgomery, Jr., came to USD in 1943 after serving three years as head football, basketball, and track at Southern State College in Springfield, SD. He was chairman of the USD Business Research Bureau and professor of business research. He was a loyal and dedicated Coyote supporter, giving freely of his time. Montgomery, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame with his father served as official scorekeeper at home Coyote basketball games, while also officiating at the Dan Lennon Invitational Track Meet and serving on the Athletic Board of Control, which he chaired in 1974-75. He was also a member of the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame selection committee. Montgomery earned a master's degree from USD in 1947.
