Bill Dunkak was a standout track and field and football player at The University of South Dakota. Dunkak was named all-NCC in football in 1926, when he and fellow teammate Fred Malone were both selected all-league. Dunkak, originally of Gregory, S.D., attended USD from 1923 to 1928. He also starred as a track and field performer, setting an all-time school record in the javelin (198 feet). He won two conferece titles in the javelin in 1925 (176-9 1/2) and 1927 (186-3). In 1926, he set a conference record in the javelin and also scored points in the discus, shot put and long jump. In 1928, he placed second in the Western finals of the Olympic trials. Dunkak won three letters each in football, basketball, and track. After leaving USD, Dunkak coached for one year at University High and one year at Winner, S.D., and then entered the insurance business.
