VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball will play its home opener on Tuesday night while men's basketball will play home contests on Friday and Saturday this week in Coyote athletics.
Women's basketball (1-2, 0-0 Summit League) plays the Creighton Bluejays on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the DakotaDome. The Bluejays will be South Dakota's third-straight Missouri Valley Conference opponent. The Coyotes will also be travelling to Malibu, Calif., for the Pepperdine Holiday Classic. The team will play tournament-host Pepperdine on Friday at 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's opponent will not be determined until the conclusion of Friday's games. Also participating in the tournament is Wyoming and Seton Hall.
Nicole Seekamp (Renmark, South Australia) has led South Dakota in scoring in each of the team's first three games and is averaging more than 16 points per contest. Alexis Yackley (Onida, S.D.) has team-highs in rebounds (18) and assists (10). The Coyotes are coming off a 63-50 loss at Northern Iowa on Sunday.
Men's basketball (1-3, 0-0 Summit League) has two home games this weekend, playing Culver-Stockton at 7 p.m. Friday and Waldorf at 7 p.m. Saturday in the DakotaDome. Casey Kasperbauer (Carroll, Iowa) is averaging 12 points per game and has made 12 three-point baskets, both team-highs. Juevol Myles (Ajax, Ontario) leads the team with 14 assists and eight steals while also contributing slightly less than 11 points per game.
South Dakota football (1-10, 0-8 MVFC) completed its final game of the season Saturday against South Dakota State, losing 31-8 in Brookings. Senior linebacker Kyle Shanker (Garretson, S.D.) had 2.5 sacks and also blocked a punt which was returned 27 yards for a touchdown by another senior linebacker, Mike Garvey (South Sioux City, Neb.). Will Powell (Sioux City, S.D.) caught eight passes for 118 yards in the game, bringing his career receiving yardage total to 2,521 yards, second-most in program history. Powell also finished his Coyote career with 21 touchdown catches, a school-record.
Both men's and women's swimming and diving lost their dual meets at South Dakota State on Friday night, as the women were defeated 178-118 while the men fell 189-108. Mariah Anderson (Kearney, Neb.) and Shannon Moceri (South Lyon, Mich.) topped the women's squad with two individual event victories each. Anderson swept the 100- (1:01.44) and 200-yard backstroke (2:12.31) while Moceri did the same with the 100 (1:05.84) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.10). Both individuals also contributed a leg for the winning 400 medley relay team. Colin Krysl (Bellevue, Neb.) won the 100 (51.62) and 200 butterfly (1:55.03) for the men.
Both the men's and women's teams will have the week off from meets before travelling to Rochester, Minn., for the Rochester Invitational on Dec. 1 and 2. Competition will start at 10 a.m. on both days.
