Stewart, Thioune earn all-Summit honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kaleb Stewart and Lahat Thioune were named to the Summit League all-newcomer team and earned all-Summit honorable mention honors as announced by the league Thursday.  
 
A native of Houston, Texas, Stewart finished as the Coyotes' leading scorer and the 7th-leading scorer in the Summit with 15.5 points per game. Stewart finished the regular season with 22 double-digit scoring games, including three 20+ point scoring performances, a 33-point performance, and a 44-point performance. The 6-3 guard scored a career-high 44 points at Denver in a double-overtime thriller. It was the most points scored in a game by a Coyote since 1967 and the fourth-most points scored in a game in program history. Stewart scored in double-figures in all but two league games.
 
Thioune was the Coyotes' leading rebounder this season at 9.4 boards per game. The Dakar, Senegal, native finished the regular season with 12 doubles-doubles to lead the Summit and rank 26th nationally. He led the Summit in all four rebounding categories: rebounds (283), defensive rebounds per game (6.0), offensive rebounds per game (3.4), and rebounds per game (9.4). He had 15 double-digit rebounding games during the regular season and six 20+ point scoring performances. Thioune scored a career-high 31 points in South Dakota's final home game of the season against NDSU. He pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds at NDSU in his Summit League debut in Fargo.
 
South Dakota opens the Summit League Tournament Friday against Oral Roberts. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.
