Coyote Women Notch 79-33 Win Over Presentation College

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The third-ranked South Dakota women's basketball team (7-1) picked up a 79-33 victory over Presentation College (2-4) Sunday night at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

The Coyotes, which won its sixth straight game, was led by All American Mandy Koupal, who had 16 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Koupal, a senior from Wagner, S.D., also added two blocks and a steal while hitting 7-of-10 field goals, including a pair of three-point baskets. Koupal moved into third place on the Coyotes career scoring list with 1,496 points at South Dakota. She passed Shelby Peterson, who had 1,487 points during 1990-94.

Redshirt freshman Vanessa Yanez (Wagner, S.D.) contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double double at South Dakota. Sophomore Meghan Woster (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Jenni Flynn (South Sioux City, Neb.) each scored nine points while senior Jodi Schoreder (Tulare, S.D.) and junior Kayla Jacobs (Watertown, S.D.) added eight points for South Dakota.

USD, which hit a season-best 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the field, gained control of the game from the start, pushing out to a 24-7 lead on a layup by Jodi Schroeder at the 10:30 mark. By halftime, USD had a commanding 42-17 lead. The Coyotes gained a 40-point lead with 4:14 to play on a lay-up by Yanez. Another Yanez basket with 21 seconds to play provided USD with its largest margin (48 points).

USD made 31.3 percent (10-of-32) from three-point range and knocked down 70 percent (7-of-10) from the charity stripe.

Presentation hit 21.2 percent (11-of-52) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from three point range and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the field. Two players, Krista Dejong and Bobbie Jo Bishop scored nine points for the visitors.

Next for South Dakota is a trip to the Southwest Minnesota State Tournament in Marshall, Minn., on Dec. 5-6. USD will face Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5 and Southwest Minnesota State at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6.
