South Dakota's Beschorner and Schwaderer Named NCC Football Players of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Wes Beschorner and Adam Schwaderer, who played key roles in the South Dakota Football Team's (1-0) season-opening 77-0 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Aug. 25, have received North Central Conference Players of the Week honors, according to an announcement by the league office on Monday.

Quarterback Wes Beschorner, a senior from Lohrville, Iowa, was named the NCC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after completing 12-of-16 passes for career-bests in yards (281 yards) and TDs (four) in the win over Minnesota-Crookston. Beschorner helped the Coyotes to a 42-0 halftime lead before he and the other starters sat out the second half. USD scored 35 more points after the break as the Coyotes scored 77 points, which is the third most for a game in school history. The last time USD scored 77 points in a game occurred in 1973 when that USD squad defeated Winona State (77-0) in the season opener. The 1930 USD squad owns the school-record for points in a game with 86 (86-0 over Augustana). Beschorner's efforts helped South Dakota establish a new, single-game total offense record of 667 yards, which broke the 1986 mark of 648 yards against St. Cloud State at the DakotaDome. Overall, USD had 338 yards rushing, including 18 by Beschorner, and 329 yards passing. Adam Schwaderer, a senior defensive end from Delmont, S.D., was named the NCC Co-Defensive Player of the Week after recording eight tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and a quarterback sack against Minnesota-Crookston. Schwaderer led a suffocating Coyote defense that recorded a shutout in its opening game of the season. USD had three quarterback sacks, 14 tackles for loss, a fumble and an interception while limiting Minnesota-Crookston to 104 yards in total offense on 54 plays. Next for the Coyotes is its home opener against Truman State (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
