VERMILLION, S.D. -- Mike Betts of Minneapolis, Minn., will enroll at The University of South Dakota and play football for Coyotes' head coach Ed Meierkort beginning in the fall of 2006.
Betts, a 6'3, 215 pound outside linebacker, was a defensive lineman/linebacker and tight end at Minneapolis North. A year ago, he recorded 120 tackles with seven quarterback sacks. In addition, he caught 20 passes for 500 yards and 10 TDs. Betts, the son of Andrea Betts and Wayne Jackson, played for coach Richard Wilson.
An outstanding basketball player, Betts led his football team to a 5-4 record and a spot in regional play.
With the addition of Betts, USD has a 2006 recruiting class of 27.
