USD Volleyball Cruises Past Drake University

DES MOINES, IOWA - The University of South Dakota volleyball team was led by Kathleen Hruska's 21 kills in the 3-1 victory over Drake University on Tuesday night in Des Moines, Iowa.

USD improves to an impressive 18-2 overall while the Bulldogs fall to 9-10 overall.

The Coyotes won the first and second games 25-20 and then dropped the third game 25-20. South Dakota then went on to earn the victory in the fourth game by a score of 25-18.

Kathleen Hruska (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the team with 21 kills and a .346 hitting percentage as she just three errors in 52 attempts. Kristen Kritenbrink (So., Gretna, Neb.) also recorded double-digit kills with 12, while Laura Slagter (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) and Heather Hult (Sr., Davis, S.D.) each added nine.

Amber Kobus (Columbus, Neb.) had a season-high 29 digs in the match. Three other Coyotes recorded double-digit digs as Gina Baldwin (RJr., Mitchell, S.D.) had 13 and Laura Slagter and Kritenbrink each added 10. Baldwin also had 35 assists.

USD finished the match with a .217 hitting percentage and 12.5 team blocks. Jolene Slagter (So., Roseville, Minn.), Hruska, and Hult led the team in blocking with six, five and five respectively.

Drake University was held to a .132 hitting percentage.

The Coyotes will be off until Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they face Dakota State University at home at 7 p.m.
