NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The University of South Dakota's tandem of Kathleen Hruska and Amber Kobus were named the Great West Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Oct. 12, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hruska collects her first weekly honor after posting an impressive .457 hitting percentage with 83 total kills for the Coyotes last week as USD went 3-1. The senior had 27 kills and a .556 hitting percentage in the 3-2 victory over North Dakota and had 24 kills against Seattle University. She also had 15 total blocks on the week. Hruska was USD's leading hitter in all four matches. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native was named to the Dig for the Cure All-Tournament team which was held in Seattle, Wash.
Kobus earns her third player of the week honor after leading South Dakota to a 3-1 record this past week. The senior had 20-plus digs in three out of the four matches. Against North Dakota she tallied 24, had 23 against Seattle University and 21 against Bryant University while adding 17 against the University of Sioux Falls. Kobus also had a .976 serve receiver percentage with just two errors in 61 attempts. The Columbus, Neb., native was also named to the Dig for the Cure All-Tournament team which was held in Seattle, Wash.
USD will be playing Drake University tonight at 7 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
