VERMILLION, S.D.: The University of South Dakota volleyball defeated two more Division I opponents and finished out the Hampton University Tournament undefeated on Saturday.
USD, now 4-0 on the season, defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham and Providence College today in Hampton, Virg. The Coyotes earned a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19) victory over FDU in the first match of the day before going on to beat Providence College 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20) as well.
In the first match, South Dakota's Laura Slagter had double figure kills with 12 and finished the game with a team high .385 hitting percentage. Three Coyotes registered double-digit digs as Amber Kobus led the way with 17 while Gabi Jarchow and Gina Baldwin each had 10.
Baldwin had a double-double in the match with 27 set assists and 10 digs.
In the second match, against Providence, USD's Heather Hult and Laura Slagter led the offense with 11 and 10 kills. Hult had just one error in 16 attempts for a .625 hitting percentage. Baldwin accumulated 36 set assists in the match.
Kobus led the defense with 18 digs while Kristin Kritenbrink had a team high four blocks.
USD will be back in action next weekend at the Golden Eagle Invitational in Crookston, Minn. The Coyotes will play two matches on Friday, Sept. 5 and two on Saturday, Sept. 6.
