Slagter and Kobus Named Great West Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- For the second week in a row, The University of South Dakota had two volleyball players honored as Great West Players of the Week. Laura Slagter and Amber Kobus earned Great West Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Coyotes to a 4-0 mark this past weekend.

A Roseville, Minn. native, Slagter earns offensive honors after leading the Coyotes to a perfect 4-0 record at the Golden Eagle Classic this last weekend in Crookston, Minn. The senior posted 49 kills for a 4.22 kills-per-game average and a .373 hitting percentage. Slagter collected 16 kills against MSU-Moorhead to open the tournament and had at least nine kills in all four matches as South Dakota improved to 8-0 on the young season.

Kobus collects her second consecutive defensive player of the week honor as the senior broke South Dakota's all-time school record in digs this past weekend. The Columbus, Neb. native established the new mark by posting 57 digs in the four matches at the Golden Eagle Classic. Kobus posted seven assists and seven kills in guiding USD to stay undefeated this season.

South Dakota is set to play its home opener against Black Hills State University tomorrow, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
