BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of South Dakota soccer and volleyball teams played long-time rival South Dakota State University this past Saturday in spring competition.
The Coyote soccer team played a competitive game versus SDSU which ended in a 0-0 tie.
"It was a good game for both teams," said head coach Marcia Oliveira. "SDSU has a good level of experience already in Division I and we were able to play at the same level. In the first half, we dominated both defensively and offensively and did a good job destroying any opportunity of attack they built."
"It was nice to see the spring practices and hard work paid off," said Oliveira. "We also were able see the competition level we face in the future."
The USD volleyball team won 3-0 over South Dakota State University and then fell to two-time defending Division II national champion Concordia-St. Paul and the SDSU alumni team.
USD swept SDSU in the spring season as they also defeated the Jackrabbits at an earlier spring tournament.
"Jenna Hatfield had a good day at the tournament," said head coach Matt Houk. "She played well and had her best offensive weekend on the spring."
"We had good effort and intensity, we just ran out of gas. It was tough having only six in the gym for spring training," said Houk.
