VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota head volleyball coach Matt Houk has announced the Coyotes' 2009 volleyball schedule.
The 28-match schedule will feature 11 home matches and will conclude with the Great West Conference Tournament on Nov. 20-21 in Houston, Texas.
USD will open the season with tough competition as it plays in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Tournament the opening weekend, Aug. 28-29. At the tournament, the Coyotes will face Wisconsin, who finished 17-13 overall last season; Ohio, which posted a 24-8 record in 2008, and Duke, who was 25-9 this past season.
The tough Division I opponents continue as South Dakota will face Drake, Valparaiso, Centenary College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Sept. 4-5 at the Drake University Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
USD will then play a single match against Kansas State University on Sept. 8 in Manhattan, Kansas. The Wildcats finished 24-8 overall last season.
The Coyotes will then have one more tournament, on Sept. 11-12 in Milwaukee, Wis., before starting conference play. At the tournament, USD will face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University and Western Michigan University.
Conference play will then begin on Sept. 17 against University of Texas Pan American. It will also mark the first home match for the Coyotes as the match will be played in the DakotaDome beginning at 7 p.m.
