Coyote Women's Soccer, UMKC Battle to Tie

Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The University of South Dakota women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.

The Coyotes (2-4-1) got on the board first.

Katie Quinones (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of 2009 with an assist from Erin Bello (RFr., Fort Collins, Colo.) to break a scoreless tie with less than 20 minutes left in the game and put USD up 1-0.

The score stood that way until the final minute, when UMKC tied the game. Zaina Mayer scored on a header with off of Ariel Rank's free kick, putting the score at 1-1 and sending the contest to overtime.

USD had a 7-2 edge in shots in the overtime periods but was unable to break the tie.

The first half was a defensive battle as the two teams battled to a 0-0 halftime tie. UMKC had five shots in the first half, compared to four for USD. Jennifer Ogren (Jr., Raymore, Mo.) had three saves for USD in the opening half.

For the game, USD had a 24-12 edge in shots. UMKC's Jami Finnell had a big game in net with 14 saves, while Ogren finished with six. Both teams had four corner kicks.

Yutzil Rodriguez (Fr., Pierre, S.D.) had five shots for USD, while Bello had three.

USD resumes action on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at the University of Idaho.
