Box Score HOUSTON, Texas -- Senior Sarah Wheeler scored a career-high two goals to lead
the University of South Dakota women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Houston Baptist in Great West Conference action Thursday night in Houston, Texas.
Wheeler (Duluth, Minn.) scored both goals within the first 12:35 of the second half to help the Coyotes (4-7-2, 1-1-0 GWC) break free from a 0-0 halftime tie.
Wheeler's first goal was a header that came off of a corner kick from freshman Taylor Henderson (Keller, Texas) at the 47:39 mark of the game. She added her second goal, which was unassisted, at the 57:35 mark to help USD build a 2-0 lead.
The Coyote defense made it stand as the USD earned its first Great West Conference victory of 2010. Senior Jen Ogren (Raymore, Mo.) recorded her third shutout of 2010 by recording four saves.
USD had three shots on goal - scoring on two - while Houston Baptist (3-11-1, 0-2-0) had four.
Sophomore Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) had two shots for USD.
The Coyotes continue Great West Conference play Saturday at Utah Valley. Game time is 1 p.m. Central time in Orem, Utah.
Notes: Wheeler now has five goals for her career...it was USD's first road win of 2010...it was also the Coyotes' first win over Houston Baptist (1-3).
