Box Score VERMILLION, S.D. -- Senior Michelle Marshall and freshman Afton Keiser each scored goals for
the University of South Dakota women's soccer team, but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes fell to Houston Baptist, 6-2 in great West Conference Friday in Vermillion, S.D.
The goal was the first of the season for Marshall (West Des Moines, Iowa) and the third of her career. IT was the first career goal for Keiser (Sioux Falls, S.D.).
USD (4-9-2, 1-3-0 GWC) found itself in a 1-0 hole just 44 seconds into the game, and Houston Baptist (4-12-1, 1-3 GWC) scored the next two goals to build a 3-0 lead.
The Coyotes got on the board in the 36th minute of the first half when Keiser took a pass from sophomore Rachel Greene (Onalaska, Wis.) and scored, cutting the HBU lead to 3-1.
HBU scored again just 2:06 later to push the lead to 4-1, but USD cut the gap to 4-2 when Marshall scored on a penalty kick with less than three minutes left in the first half.
USD was unable to get closer as Houston Baptist scored two goals in the second half to make the final count 6-2.
Senior Jen Ogren (Raymore, Mo.) had four saves for USD while sophomore Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) led USD with five shots.
The Coyotes will look to bounce back Sunday at home against Utah Valley. The game, which is Senior Day, begins at 11 a.m. at the USD Soccer Field in Vermillion.
