Vermillion, S.D. -- South Dakota head volleyball coach Matt Houk has announced that
Leanne Felsing has been named a full-time assistant on the Coyote staff. Felsing has served as a graduate assistant the past two seasons.
"Leanne is one of the best young assistant coaches in the country," Houk said. "She is a wonderful role model for our players. She was a great player, and she succeeded in the classroom. Leanne is extremely engaged with our players, she connects with them, and she understands the pressures that go along with being a Division I athlete. And on top of all of this, she is a great technical trainer. Leanne played multiple positions in college, which gives her quality experiences to pull from as a coach. This program is better because of Leanne wanting to be here."
Felsing came to USD after a decorated playing career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2004-07.
She put together one of the best all around seasons in UWM history in 2007, leading the nation in triple-doubles while earning AVCA All-Region and honorable mention All-America honors for a second-straight season. Felsing finished her career with 1,146 kills, 1,329 digs and 2,264 assists while also helping the Panthers to four regular season league titles.
She also excelled in the classroom throughout her career, collecting academic all-league and all-region recognition. Felsing was also named the Horizon League Player of the Year, an All-Horizon League honoree, ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection and Horizon League All-Academic Team.
Felsing, a native of Hartland, Wis. graduated from the UW-Milwaukee with a degree in education and completed her master's degree in athletic administration from South Dakota in Dec. 2010.
Felsing steps into the position vacated by Jerad Gelante's resignation in 2010.
