Vermillion, S.D. - South Dakota head coach Ed Meierkort has announced
Tim Triplett will immediately join the Coyote football staff as wide receivers coach. Triplet replaces Tony Petersen, who resigned to take over as offensive coordinator at Marshall University.
"Our staff is extremely happy to welcome Tim back to Vermillion," Meierkort said. "He was a great leader as a Coyote student-athlete and we're sure he will continue that as part of the coaching staff. His family's strong ties to the program have long been a positive relationship for both sides."
Triplett played in 40 games at wide receiver for USD from 2001-05 and as a senior was a captain on the Coyote squad that won a share of the North Central Conference title. After graduating, he began coaching at the collegiate level at Cornell College, where he served as special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach during the 2006 season. In 2007, he moved on to Wayne State College as wide receivers coach and was part of a staff that led the Wildcats to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2008.
Triplett spent the spring of 2009 as wide receivers coach at Simpson College and also served as interim sports information director, before joining the South Dakota State staff in August of 2009. As a tight ends coach he helped guide the Jackrabbits to an 8-4 record and an appearance in the FCS playoffs last fall.
A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Triplett earned a bachelor's of science in contemporary media and journalism before adding a master's in sport management from Wayne State in 2008. Tim is the son of former Coyote head coach Dave Triplett, while his brothers, Sean and Rory, also played for USD.
