Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The University of South Dakota women's soccer team hung tough in its 2010 season debut but fell short in a 1-0 loss to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday night in Edwardsville, Ill.
It was USD's debut under first-year Coach Mandy Green. The game started 25 minutes late because of a lightning delay.
The Coyotes (0-1) lost despite a strong effort in net from senior Jen Ogren (Raymore, Mo.), who had 10 saves.
USD trailed 1-0 at halftime after SIUE scored a goal at the 44:40 mark of the first half. SIUE held an 11-2 edge in shots, but just a 3-1 edge in shots on goal as USD's defense limited Cougar opportunities in the opening frame. Freshman Jenny Teslow (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had both of USD's first-half shots.
Ogren had eight saves in the second half alone, keeping USD within one goal. However, the Coyotes were unable to tie the game and fell short.
Teslow's two shots led USD, while senior Katie Quinones (Rochester, Minn.) and sophomore Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) had the other shots. Quinones and Teslow had shots on goal.
The Coyotes cap off the weekend road trip with a game at Western Illinois at 2 p.m. Sunday in Macomb, Ill.
