Box Score MACOMB, Ill. -- The University of South Dakota women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Western Illinois in nonconference action Sunday in Macomb, Ill.
USD (0-1-1) finished its season-opening road trip to Illinois with a tie and a loss.
The Coyotes struck first Sunday when sophomore Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored unassisted at the 20:59 mark of the first half, putting USD up 1-0.
Western Illinois tied the game at the 34:23 mark of the first half. The game stayed at a 1-1 heading into halftime.
In the second half, neither team was able to break the tie, sending the game to overtime. The two teams continued to be deadlocked through the two overtime frames, leaving the final at 1-1.
Senior goalkeeper Jen Ogren (Raymore, Mo.) limited Western Illinois to just one goal in the game and finished with 14 saves in net as she continued her strong start to the season.
Bello led USD with three shots, while freshman Kerry Grogan (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added two, both of which were on goal. 
USD's next action is at home on Friday, Aug. 27 against UM-Kansas City.  The contest, which begins at 4 p.m., will serve as the 2010 home opener for USD.
Notes: The goal was the fourth of Bello's Coyote career...the two teams will meet again on Sept. 6 in Vermillion, S.D...Western Illinois is a member of the Summit League, which USD will join in 2011-12.
