Box Score VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota women's soccer team came up short in its bid for a second consecutive win Thursday as the Coyotes lost to Creighton, 4-1, in nonconference action at the USD Soccer Field.
USD (2-3-1) was coming off of a 3-2 double-overtime win over Western Illinois on Sept. 6, but Creighton (3-2-2) grabbed the momentum in the first half, scoring three goals to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. The Bluejays, one of the perennially strong Missouri Valley Conference programs, outshot USD 11-4 in the opening frame.
The second half was much more evenly-played, with Creighton holding just a 12-10 edge in shots.
Creighton scored a goal to make it 4-0 but USD got on the board with just under 10 minutes left when freshman Jenny Teslow (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored unassisted to bring USD with 4-1, which was the final score.
Freshman Afton Keiser (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and junior Sami Spokas (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) had two shots on goal each for USD. Teslow led with four overall shots while Keiser, sophomore Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Spokas had two each.
Senior goalkeeper Jen Ogren (Raymore, Mo.) had six saves in net as she continues to close in on Candice Martinez for USD's all-time career saves lead.
The Coyotes return to play on Saturday, Sept. 11 at home against Idaho. Game time is 4 p.m. at the USD Soccer Field.
Notes: USD is now 2-2 so far on its current six-game homestand...Creighton leads the all-time series with USD at 4-0...Ogren has 64 saves through six games, which is 10th most in a single-season in USD history. The record is 205.
