Jenny Teslow's goal brought South Dakota within one goal late, but the Coyotes' rally fell short as they lost to Missouri-Kansas City, 2-1, in Summit League women's soccer action Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.
Teslow (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year in the 81st minute to bring the Coyotes (1-3-1 Summit League) within 2-1. However, they could close the gap no further as the Kangaroos (7-5-3, 5-0 Summit League), who are tied for first in the Summit League, made two early goals stand.
Teslow and freshman Makena Cameron (Cheyenne, Wyo.) had shots on goal for the Coyotes. Cameron, Teslow and junior Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the Coyotes with two shots apiece.
Freshman Mackenzie Viktor (Fort Collins, Colo.) had four saves in net for the Coyotes.
UMKC had a 16-7 edge in shots, although just a 6-5 edge in the second half.
The Coyotes return home for a nonconference game against Northern Iowa on Monday. Game time is 4 p.m. at the USD Soccer Field in Vermillion, S.D.
