VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota football team is ranked 19th in the latest FCS Coaches Poll, which was announced on Monday. It is the sixth straight week the Coyotes have been ranked in the top 25, the most since moving to Division I FCS status.
The Coyotes (4-3) are one of only two Great West teams ranked in the latest poll. They are also ranked No. 25 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS poll.
Georgia Southern remains the top-ranked team, receiving 27 first-place votes, while Northern Iowa is second.
South Dakota will look to continue its DakotaDome dominance this weekend when it plays host to UC Davis in a pivotal Great West Conference game. The Coyotes are one of three unbeatens in the Great West Conference, while Saturday's game will be the first GWC game of the year for UC Davis.
The Coyotes are 38-5 (.884) at the DakotaDome under Head Coach Ed Meierkort, including 4-0 this season.
The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.
