VERMILLION, S.D. - Make it a perfect 10. The University of South Dakota football team has been ranked in the FCS Coaches Poll for the 10th straight week, the NCAA announced Monday. The Coyotes remained at No. 24 this week after a 48-14 throttling of Missouri S&T last Saturday on Senior Day.
The Coyotes are 6-4 on the year and 2-1 in the Great West Conference and are scheduled to travel to North Dakota this week for the regular season finale in a matchup of two ranked teams. North Dakota is 22nd this week after a 14-7 win at UC Davis last Saturday. The winner of this Saturday's contest will earn a share of the 2011 Great West Conference Championship with Cal Poly.
The Coyotes have 71 points in this week's coaches' poll and North Dakota has 119 points. Cal Poly has one vote among others receiving votes.
In the Sports Network/Fathead.com Poll, the Coyotes are 22nd this week and are the only Great West Conference team ranked in the poll. North Dakota is receiving votes as is Cal Poly.
For the fourth time this season, there is a new No. 1 in the FCS Coaches Poll. Montana State (9-1) earned 18 first-place votes this week to claim the top spot. The Bobcats were idle last week and will host No. 7 Montana this weekend.
North Dakota State, which sat at No. 1 for the last two weeks, fell to fifth after losing to Youngstown State, marking the first setback for the Bison this season. Sam Houston State, ranked third this week, remains the only unbeaten team in FCS.
Georgia Southern moved to No. 2 in the poll after a win at Wofford Saturday, while Northern Iowa is fourth to round out the top five.
Saturday's contest at North Dakota will mark the second time this season the Coyotes and their opponent have entered the game ranked. The other was Oct. 8 when then-No. 18 South Dakota downed then-No. 22 Southern Utah on Dakota Days, 24-19.
