VERMILLION, S.D. - Junior guard Alexis Yackley scored a season-high 16 points, but the South Dakota women's basketball team fell short against Oral Roberts, 66-53 in the Coyotes' Summit League home opener Thursday night in Vermillion, S.D. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Coyotes (8-3, 1-2 Summit League), while Oral Roberts improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the Summit League.

However, after Yackley's three with 11:30 left, the Coyotes managed just four points over the next 9:05 as the Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 56-45 with 2:25 left, thanks to a decisive 15-4 run. South Dakota got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

The Coyotes trailed for much of the first half, including 20-16 with 7:21 left. However, they scored seven straight points - which included two 3-pointers from Yackley - to take a 23-20 lead with 5:29 left. A three-pointer by Roche gave South Dakota its biggest lead of the night at 26-20 with 3:02 left in the first half. Oral Roberts cut the lead to 28-27 at halftime.
