VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota football team stands at 21st in the latest FCS Coaches Poll, released Monday. This is the third consecutive week the Coyotes have been ranked in the poll marking the first time since transitioning to Division I that has happened.
Coyotes are one of three teams ranked in the poll from the Great West Conference. Southern Utah breaks into the poll at 18, following its 41-16 win at FBS UNLV. North Dakota is 24th this week after a 53-19 win over Black Hills State. UND was 21st last week. Both UC Davis and Cal Poly are receiving votes.
Georgia Southern remains the top team in the poll garnering 25 of 28 first place votes. Northern Iowa is second with the remaining three first place votes. Appalachian State and Montana State remain third and fourth, respectively, while Delaware moves up one spot to fifth this week.
North Dakota State moved up six spots to a tie with Wofford for sixth after the Bison upset FBS Minnesota 37-24 in Minneapolis Saturday. James Madison is eighth, followed by New Hampshire, while William & Mary and Richmond are tied for 10th.
South Dakota also is 21st this week in the TSN/Fathead.com FCS Poll. Southern Utah is 17th in that poll, while North Dakota, Cal Poly and UC Davis all are receiving votes.
The Coyotes (2-2) return home this Saturday to host Lindenwood University (3-1) at 4 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
