VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota women's basketball team held Nebraska-Omaha to just eight first-half points on its way to a 58-38 win over the Mavericks in nonconference action Tuesday night at the DakotaDome at Vermillion, S.D. The Coyotes, who won their sixth straight game, improved to 16-6 overall while UNO fell to 13-11.

Senior Jodie Boss (Columbus, Neb.) recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 15 points. Senior Amber Hegge (Crofton, Neb.) added a game-high 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior Tempestt Wilson (Elk River, Minn.) added 10 points. Senior Annie Roche (Vermillion, S.D.) added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Coyotes.

The Coyote defense held Nebraska-Omaha to just 23.2 percent (13-of-56) shooting from the field while also forcing 18 turnovers. The Coyotes converted those turnovers into 22 points. The eight points scored in the first half tied for the fewest scored by a Coyote opponent in a half this season.

The Coyotes opened the game on a 7-0 run over the first 3:21 -- Roche hit a three while Hegge and Boss each had two points. However, the scored stayed that way for nearly five minutes until Taijhe Kelly hit a free throw for the Mavericks at the 11:54 mark of the half.

South Dakota went without a point for more than eight minutes of the first half, and faced an 8-7 deficit with 9:28 left. However, after a Jamie Nash layup at that point, UNO would not score again in the half as the Coyotes went on a 16-0 run to close the frame and take a 23-8 lead into the break.

Both teams shot miserably in the first half. The Coyotes shot just 21.1 percent (8-of-38), but held the Mavericks to a frigid 11.5 percent (3-of-26) shooting.

Hegge and Boss led the Coyotes with seven points each in the first half. Boss had nine rebounds.

South Dakota pulled away early in the second half with a 14-4 run over the first five minutes to build a 37-12 lead. Hegge and Boss each had four points during that run. The Coyotes controlled the game from there, stretching their lead to 56-26 with 5:09 left on their way to the 20-point win.

Freshman Kelly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) added five points and five rebounds off the bench.

South Dakota gets back into conference play at home Saturday night against North Dakota State. Game time is 5 p.m. at the DakotaDome.
