Final Stats
OMAHA, Neb.—Omaha scored twice in the first half and goalkeeper Meaghan Clark made five saves to lead the Mavericks to a 2-0 win against South Dakota Sunday on Omaha's campus. It was the Summit League opener for both teams. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed due to the threat of severe weather.
Ava Doetsch and Chelsi Rohloff notched goals for Omaha (3-5-2, 1-0-0) and both were assisted by Monica Bosiljevac. Doetsch scored in the sixth minute with a chip over the head of goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor. Rohloff found herself alone in the open field and punched a shot over Viktor from 25 yards away in the 35th minute.
The windy and cold conditions did little to aid the Coyotes' (5-4-3, 0-1-0) comeback efforts. South Dakota was limited to five shots in the second half – none in the final 15 minutes – and 13 shots in all, though their counterparts mustered just 10 shots. Viktor finished with four saves.
The Coyotes return to the pitch at 6 p.m. Thursday against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in Brookings.
