No. 19 Nebraska powers past USD

LINCOLN, Neb. -Jordan Hooper scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds as No. 19 Nebraska snapped the South Dakota women's basketball team's five-game winning streak with an 87-53 win at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday.

Hooper led a group of four Cornhuskers (9-2) to double-digit point totals with Tear'a Laudermill adding 15 points, Sadie Murren recording 11 points and Emily Cady tallying 10 points. Sadie Murren led Nebraska in rebounds with eight, while Rachel Theriot and Hailie Sample both recorded five assists.

Raeshel Contreras led South Dakota (7-6) in scoring with 17 points while Tia Hemiller and Nicole Seekamp both added 11 points. Hemiller led the Coyotes in rebounds with six and Seekamp had three assists.

Nebraska never trailed and started the game on an 11-0 run and led 40-20 at halftime. The Cornhuskers shot 46 percent in the game (29-63) and 50 percent in the second half (15-30) while holding USD to 29 percent from the field (17-58) and 16 percent (4-25) from 3-point range in the contest.

The Cornhuskers also added a 46-33 advantage in rebounds despite both teams finishing the first half with 19. They also had advantages in assists (19-8) and bench points (28-5).

South Dakota will next play at Valparaiso on Dec. 31.
